NEET-PG Postponement Plea in SC: A Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud will today hear a petition seeking the postponement of the NEET PG 2024 examination, which is scheduled to take place on August 11, 2024. The petitioner has raised concerns over the late allocation of exam cities, arguing that it has created significant logistical challenges for the over two lakh candidates set to appear for the test. Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra will accompany the CJI in the hearing today.
According to the petition, exam cities were allotted on July 31, 2024, with specific exam centers to be announced just three days before the exam, on August 8, 2024. While this strategy was intended to prevent malpractices, it has inadvertently caused severe difficulties for many students. The petitioner highlights that the short notice period has left candidates scrambling to arrange travel to their allocated cities, compounded by the scarcity of train tickets and skyrocketing airfares due to dynamic pricing.
The petition states, "...more than two lakh students are scheduled to appear in the aforementioned examination. The examination is scheduled to be held in 185 test cities, resulting in the non-availability of train tickets as well as hiking of airfares due to dynamic pricing, thereby making it almost impossible for a large number of students to reach their test centres."
In addition to requesting a postponement, the petitioner has also called for greater transparency in the normalization process of the four different question paper sets. This demand aims to ensure fairness and eliminate any potential arbitrariness in the evaluation process.
