Patna University (PU), steeped in 107 years of history, is on the brink of an impressive transformation this year, heralded by the construction of new administrative and academic complexes, and the evolution of its south campus at Saidpur.

According to PU registrar Khagendra Kumar, the university's ambitious plans for two monumental complexes are nearing completion. "A towering G+11 academic block, an Rs 88 crore endeavor, and a sprawling G+9 administrative block, costing Rs 58 crore, are on the verge of realization," he told a leading daily.

As per the report,  PU has secured a substantial grant of Rs 163 crore earmarked for the creation of two G+9 girls' hostels opposite GDS Mahila Chhatravas at Krishna Kunj. Additionally, plans encompass a four-storied staff quarter and a G+7 science block on the eastern side of the Patna Science College building on Ashok Rajpath. These endeavors aim to address long-standing deficiencies in academic and residential facilities at the university.

Further enhancements include the imminent functionality of an international hostel, a G+3 structure spread across 15,742 sq ft, tailored for overseas scholars. This modern facility boasts 24 well-appointed rooms equipped with amenities like air conditioning, attached bathrooms, and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Looking ahead, the development program for PU's south campus adjacent to the upcoming science city, with an estimated expenditure of Rs 750 crore, remains a pivotal undertaking. This initiative encompasses the construction of adequate accommodations for faculty, staff, and students, alleviating the pressing need for campus housing.

On the academic frontier, the newly established PU Incubation Hub is poised to nurture innovation and entrepreneurship among the university's bright minds. Additionally, the newly erected Central Instrumentation Facility Center (CIFC) on the main campus promises cutting-edge equipment such as UV-visible spectrophotometers, FTIR spectrophotometers, NMR spectrometers, X-ray Diffraction (XRD) facilities, High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), fostering advanced research in physical sciences, PU's Students' Welfare Dean, Anil Kumar told the newspaper.

A significant milestone for PU lies ahead in 2024, with the introduction of a pioneering postgraduate course in forensic science, a first of its kind in the state. The groundwork for this groundbreaking initiative has already been laid by the university, signaling exciting prospects in the academic realm.
