Bangladeshi actress Humaira Himu dies aged 37, police arrests her friend

Humaira made her film debut with the 2011 film Amar Bondhu Rashed.

Popular Bangladeshi TV actress Humaira Himu passed away on Thursday, November 2. Reportedly, Humaira was rushed to the Uttara Adhunik Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Humaira was 37-years-old at the time of her demise. 

Humaira rose to the limelight with her 2011 film Amar Bondhu Rashed

Humaira began her acting journey by working in theatre around mid-2000s, and soon made her acting debut in television with the series Chayabithi. Humaira made her film debut with the 2011 film Amar Bondhu Rashed. The film was set against the backdrop of the 1971 Liberation war, where Humaira played the role of Iru Apa. Amar Bondu Roshed turned out to be a big hit, making Humaira a household name in Bangladesh.

In the following years, Humaira found immense success in the entertainment industry with her work in TV shows like Bari Bari Sari Sari, Housefull, and Gulshan Avenue. Some of her other notable TV shows are Sonaghat, Chairman Bari, Batighar, Shonena Sey Shonena.

A man arrested in connection with Humaira's death

According to a report in the local daily Dhaka tribute, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a man in connection with Humaira’s death earlier today. Reportedly, the said man was Humaira’s friend, and had fled from the hospital after taking Humaira there. The President of the Actors Equity Association, Ahsan Habib Nasim, told the media that the doctors, upon observing a faint ligature mark on her neck, promptly informed the police.

Reportedly, the police have also claimed that Humaira had a romantic relationship with the man, and may have committed suicide after the couple had an argument on the afternoon of November 2.
