Hot Trend/ 15 years of Fashion: When Priyanka Chopra revealed she was warned against signing the film

Madhur Bhandarkar’s movie Fashion, starring Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut in the lead roles, completed 15 years on Sunday. The film was a turning point for Priyanka Chopra who had her first bonafide hit with this film where she was a lead actress. Soon after Fashion, Chopra had Dostana after which there was no turning back for the actress.

In an earlier interaction with notable podcast host Dax Shephered on his show Armchair Expert, Chopra spoke about the significance of the Madhur Bhandarkar movie in shaping her career. Chopra had said, “I took on a movie on my shoulders because it was a necessity, which turned out to be career-defining for me. We worked on that script for six months.” More importantly, Chopra noted how Fashion helped her in becoming assertive and focused in her selection of projects. Chopra said, “For the first time, I felt like I had agency in what I was doing and that really changed how I worked after that.”

Chopra also recalled an incident when a major magazine had published her photo on the cover, and had captioned it ‘Finished’ in bold letters. After looking at that magazine cover, Priyanka Chopra recalled that her mother had really begun to be tense about her career progression. Fashion, therefore, was a conscious choice according to Chopra.

In another podcast, Priyanka Chopra had recalled many people warning her of the dire consequences of doing fashion, reminding her that heroines make such choices mostly at the end of their careers. Chopra had said, “So many people told me that heroines do these films at the end of their career, when they want a National Award. Heroines take the responsibility of a film only because they are not getting any work with men,”. She added, “Everyone also told me that I wouldn’t get another job if this film failed but I did it anyway.”

Earlier today, Madhur Bhandakar too took to his social media page, thanking his team and fans for loving his 2008 film. He stated, “Always humbled by the immense love showered on this timeless film. A heartfelt thanks to the entire Star Cast,  @utvfilms, and the talented technicians' team for their contribution.”

Fashion, besides being a major box-office success, also bagged Priyanka Chopra her first and only National Award to date. Fashion was also Madhur Bhandarkar’s last box-office success - the filmmaker has struggled to deliver another hit film since then.
