The film is an official remake of the film Perfect Strangers (2021). Ahead of the film's release, the actor has opened up about the reception of comedy movies at the box office as well as in popular culture. He has advocated for more recognition to be given to such films.
Akshay Kumar says comedy films need to be taken seriously
In an interview during the promotional spree of his upcoming movie Khel Khel Mein, Akshay Kumar advocated for the comedy genre in the industry. The actor shared that he has never seen a comedy film win top accolades in Bollywood. He cited examples of popular comedians like Charlie Chaplin, Jim Carey, Jackie Chan, and Barry Hill to share how people resort to the genre in stressful situations.
In conversation with Pinkvilla, the actor shared, "Comedy ko log itna halka kyun lete hain hamari industry mein?...Maine aaj tak nahin dekha hai ki the best film award goes to a comedy film (Why is comedy treated lightly in our industry? Till today, I have never seen that the Best Film award goes to a comedy film)." He added, "Maine kabhi nahin dekha hai ki koi hero jo comedy karta hai usko best hero ke role mein diya jaaye. Aisa kyun hota hai? (I have never seen any hero who performs a comic role receive the Best Hero award. Why is this happening?)"
He concluded by saying, "It gives you so much of peace. Isn't that supposed to get an award for that? I hope in my industry people take comedy seriously."
Khel Khel Mein to release in a three-way clash with Stree 2, Vedaa

Presented by Gulshan Kumar, T-Series, and Wakaoo Films, Khel Khel Mein is a T-Series film, Wakaoo Films, and KKM Film production. It features the ensemble cast of Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal, Pragya Jaiswal, and Fardeen Khan.
