Animal Box Office Day 1: Ranbir’s film beats Pathaan to become second-highest opener of 2023

Animal hit the big screens on December 1, alongside Vicky Kaushal starrer Sam Bahadur. Ranbir Kapoor headlines the film with Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol in pivotal roles. On its first release day, the action flick raked in a decent collection with several halls running at maximum capacity. 

Ranbir Kapoor delivers career-best opener 

On the first day of its release, Animal amassed a total collection of ₹61 crore at the domestic box office, as per early estimates provided by Sacnilk. The film's business showed positive trends from the advance booking itself. The Ranbir Kapoor film has easily dominated the box office against Sam Bahadur. 

With ₹61 crores raked in on the first day, Animal has become Ranbir Kapoor's career-best opener. The film has surpassed the opening day collection of Sanju, which minted ₹34 crores on day 1 of release and also remains the actor’s career-best role with ₹342.52 crores in domestic collection. However, it is yet to be seen if the film can surpass Sanju to become the highest-grossing film for the actor ever. 

Animal beats Pathaan to register second highest first-day collection in 2023 

Apart from becoming Ranbir’s highest-grossing film, the film has also joined the league of highest-grossing films this year. Animal has surpassed Sidharth Anand-directed Pathaan, which opened to ₹57 crore, to register the second-highest opening of the year. The movie comes second to Atlee-directed Jawan which raked in ₹75 crore on day 1 of release. Given that Animal was released with an A certificate, on a non-holiday, the opening day collections are staggering in itself.

Animal is largely centred on the father-son relationship. In the trailer, Ranbir looks raw and intense. His character is highly in awe of and obsessed with his father, and he is seen trying to please him in every way. The trailer is a violent, bloody, as well as emotional story. The child of a rich man, Ranbir’s character has a relationship with his father which is carved in blood and shaped by this darkness, he embraces his bloodlust and becomes a psychotic bloodthirsty killer. Written and directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the movie fuses elements typical of both South Indian and Bollywood films. Releasing on December 1, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri, Shakti Kapoor, Prem Chopra, and Suresh Oberoi, among others.
