Animal star Rashmika Mandanna says she often questioned the actions of her character Gitanjali
While Animal has been receiving tremendous response at boxoffice, the film has also drawn some flak for glorification of toxic masculinity and alleged misogyny.
Popular South Indian actress Rashmika Mandanna, who made her Bollywood debut last year with the film Goodbye, was recently seen in the Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal. While the Ranbir Kapoor starrer has been receiving tremendous response at the boxoffice, it has drawn some flak for its portrayal of heroism and alleged misogynist tones. Amidst the criticism, Rashmika took to her social media page to pen a heartfelt note about the film and her character in the film.
Rashmika described her Animal character as ‘pure, real, unfiltered’
In Animal, Rashmika Mandanna played Gitanjali, the fierce, strong-headed yet loyal wife to protagonist Ranvijay (played by Ranbir Kapoor). Taking to her Instagram page, Rashmika penned about Gitanjali, “If I were to describe her in a sentence… it would be the only force at home holding her family together. She is pure, real, unfiltered, strong and raw.”
Rashmika further wrote in her post that she would often question some of the actions of Gitanjali’s character in the film, to which her director Sandeep Reddy Vanga would tell her, “This was their story.”]
Gitanjali is absolutely beautiful: Rashmika
Rashmika concluded her note by reassuring her followers that Gitanjali remains ‘absolutely beautiful’ in her view, and that in some ways, she is like most women who are ‘standing strong and protecting their families day in and day out,’ and by thanking her fans for all the love.
Animal, which released on December 1, collected over 563 crores worldwide in its first week. As per the latest reports, the film has managed strong collections on its second friday as well, and is estimated to garner around 25 crores in India alone. Besides Ranbir and Rashmika, Animal also stars Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor and Triptii Dimri in significant roles.
