AR Rahman Divorce: Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and wife Saira Banu announced their decision to separate after 29 years of marriage, their lawyer said on Tuesday. In a strange coincidence, bassist Mohini Dey, 28, who works with Rahman among other artists, also announced her divorce from her husband, saxophonist Mark Hartsuch, on Instagram on the same day. The divorce news of the two couples, which came to light hours apart, has led to wild rumours on social media, with netizens chiming in with their reactions.
Mohini Dey turns off her Instagram comments after divorce announcement
After sharing the news of her divorce on social media with Mark Hartsuch, Mohini turned off her comments on the post. However, netizens did not shy away from sharing wild theories about how Mohini and Rahman, who are colleagues, shared the news of their separation just hours apart.
"It's strange that Rahman and his colleague separated on the same day," commented a social media user. Another one said, "What is happening here? I am confused."
Rahman's hashtag for divorce goes viral
In a joint statement, AR Rahman and his estranged wife Saira announced their decision to separate after nearly three decades of marriage. In a statement on behalf of the couple, prominent divorce lawyer Vandana Shah said they took the decision to separate after “significant emotional strain in their relationship”.
“After many years of marriage, Saira and her husband A R. Rahman have made the difficult decision to separate from each other. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time,” read the joint statement, issued to media by Shah.
Later, Rahman shared a post on his X handle, saying that he had hoped to reach the 30-year marriage milestone with his now estranged wife. "We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end," he wrote. However, the Dil Se composer used the hashtag '#arrsairaabreakup', which made netizens curious.
