Box Office: Gadar 2, OMG 2, RARKPK make August most profitable month post-pandemic

Bollywood releases have turned out to be back-to-back hits at the box office in August, taking their cumulative collection to over ₹800 crore. It is the first time post-COVID-19 pandemic that not one or two but three films back-to-back turned out to be blockbuster hits in a single month. The credit goes to Sunny Deol's Gadar 2, Akshay Kumar's OMG 2, and now, Ayushmann Khurrana's Dream Girl 2.

Break down of ₹800 crore

August witnessed a great start at the box office with the release of Gadar 2 and OMG 2. Sunny Deol's film has earned Rs 450 crore so far, while OMG 2 and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani helped boost the numbers. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt's film was released on July 28, but the major collection of the film came in August, adding to the numbers of Gadar 2 and OMG 2.

OMG 2, starring Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi, has earned Rs 135.92 crore so far, while after 4 weeks of release, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani collected Rs 147.75 crore in India. Apart from these titles, released on August 25, Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday starrer Dream Girl 2 witnessed a good start. In the first weekend, the firm earned Rs 40.71 crore. 

Ghoomer, Akelli fail at box office 

Despite not earning well at the box office, small films like Ghoomer and Akelli boosted August's overall collection. Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher starrer, which released on August 18, has collected ₹4.97 crore so far, while Nushrratt Bharuccha starrer, which released on August 25, earned Rs 86 lakh in three days since its release. 

After adding all the films' earnings, the total stands at ₹780.21 crore. With just a few days left in August, it seems the collection will cross the ₹800 crore mark, making this month the most profitable for the movie business post-pandemic.
