Dream Girl 2 Box Office Day 7: Ayushmann Khurrana starrer holds steady, rakes in ₹8 crore

Dream Girl 2 starring Ayushmann Khurrana continues to hold steady at the domestic box office. The movie became Khuranna’s biggest career opener by collecting a staggering ₹10.09 crore on its opening day, August 25. Not just for Khuranna, Ananya Panday also got her highest first-weekend grosser with Dream Girl 2 (₹40.71 cr).  After a slight dip in the box office collection on its fourth and fifth day since release, the film registered an upward trend on Raksha Bandhan (August 30) and continued to rake in impressive numbers even on Thursday, August 31. As per early estimates by Sacnilk, Dream Girl 2 minted ₹8 crore on its first Thursday. The film’s total business stands at an impressive ₹67.50 crore in seven days.

Dream Girl 2 gets a boost on Raksha Bandhan holiday 

The Ayushmann Khuranna starrer comedy collected an impressive number on the two-day Raksha Bandhan holiday (August 30 and August 31). On Wednesday, August 30, the film collected ₹7.5 crores and early estimates show that the film minted ₹8 crore on August 31. The boost in the business can be attributed to the mid-week holiday which has helped the film take its total to ₹67.50 crore.  While the movie holds steady at the box office for now, the coming weekend remains crucial with Atlee-directed Jawan releasing in theatres.

Will Dream Girl 2 become Ayushmann Khuranna’s highest-grosser? 

Currently, Ayushmann Khuranna’s highest-grossing movie is the 2019 film Dream Girl whose lifetime collection in India stands at ₹141.3 crore nett. The sequel will have to surpass this number to emerge as the career-best film for Khuranna. While it looks tough with Gadar 2 wreaking havoc at the domestic box office, Dream Girl 2 still has another week to draw audiences before new releases hit theatres.

Ayushmann Khurrana on playing a woman in Dream Girl 2

Dream Girl 2 focuses on a cross-gender man (played by Ayushmann) whose female voice impersonation begets the attention of others and talks about depression and loneliness. From wearing 'ladies perfumes' to playing a song for his entry and shaving every four hours, actor Ayushmann Khurrana underwent all the challenges to activate his feminine energy for the role of 'Pooja' in 'Dream Girl 2'. 

It was a challenging role for Ayushmann considering he constantly had to switch between the two roles of Karam and Pooja, while all along ensuring the punches and comic timing hit the right note. 

Talking about the same, he said during media interactions: "The 2.0 version of 'Dream Girl' is not just about the voice, its also about the 'being'. Its transformation, look, and after shooting for this film I have realised it's too difficult to be a woman. (Ladki bannaa bahot mushkil hai, or Ladki hona usse bhi jyada mushkil). Its all for feminism." He said the movie is lot of fun, there is no deep message in this, it is just fully entertaining and laugh-out-loud moments in the film. "I loved playing a woman in the film." 

The movie boasts an ensemble cast including -- Ananya Panday, Paresh Rawal, Annu Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav, Vijay Raaz, Asrani, Abhishek Banerjee, Manjot Singh and Seema Pahwa.
