DYK Ajay Devgn's father Veeru Devgan was a gangster before venturing into the film industry

"He started from there and eventually became a carpenter. Then he became one of the gangsters in Sion-Koliwada area," said Ajay Devgn.

Ajay Devgn was recently asked during a chat show whether his father Veeru Devgan got his dues as a renowned director and action choreographer. Responding to the question, the actor said "eventually." He then went on to narrate how his father entered the entertainment industry and ended up being one of the most senior action directors in Bollywood.

Ajay Devyn reveals his father Veeru Devgan was a gangster

During the chat show, Ajay Devgn shared a personal anecdote and shared that his father Veery Devgan ran away from his house at a young age to pursue his dreams. The Drishyam actor revealed that his father ran away from old Punjab at the age of 13. He went to Mumbai without a ticket and even had to spent time behind the bars.

Ajay Devgn narrated that his father struggled a lot and was unable to feed himself. Veeru Devgan had to was cabs everyday to just sleep inside them. The Ishq actor said, "He started from there and eventually became a carpenter. Then he became one of the gangsters in Sion-Koliwada area. He was a carpenter also and there were gang wars. One day a very senior action director Mr. Ravi Khanna was passing by and there was this street fight going on. So, he stopped the car and called my dad after the fight and asked, ‘What do you do?’ and he said 'I’m a carpenter'. So, he said one very good line, ‘Tu ladta acha hai, come and meet me tomorrow’ and made him a fighter. So that’s where he started from."

Who was Veeru Devgan?

Veeru Devgan was a renowned action director and has been associated with over 200 Hindi language films. These films include Mr Natwarlal, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Phool Aur Kaante, and others. Not just Veeru, but his wife Veena also worked in the film industry as a film producer.
