Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma thinks this RRR actor could play Tara Singh
Anil Sharma, who is currently basking in mammoth success of his film Gadar 2, spoke up about the actors he finds suitable for Tara Singh, besides Sunny Deol.
Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma recently opened up about the actors who he finds suitable for the iconic character of Tara Singh from his Gadar franchise. The filmmaker spoke about the subject during an interaction with Bollywood Hungama.
3 things you need to know:
- Gadar 2 released on August 10.
- The film also marked the debut for Utkarsh Sharma, the son of director Anil Sharma.
- Gadar: Ek Prem Katha had released in June 2001.
Nobody suitable in Bollywood to play Tara Singh: Anil Sharma
During the said interview, the Gadar 2 filmmaker was asked about which other actors would be suitable to reprise the role of Tara Singh, from the current generation. In reply, Anil Sharma emphatically stated that nobody in the Mumbai Film Industry seemed to have that gravitas or aura to do justice to a powerful character like Tara Singh. He said, “I don’t find anyone (suitable) in the young lot. Mumbai mein to nahi hai .. (Not in Bombay at least)"
However, Sharma noted that there are a few actors from the Southern film industries, like Jr NTR, who he can imagine doing a good job at reprising Tara Singh, adding, “inki kuch image hai.” (They have an image like that). Although Jr NTR was a major star down south ever since his debut film 15 years ago, He caught the national attention with the S.S.Rajamouli film RRR.
Sunny Deol was not the first choice for Gadar
Interestingly enough, Sunny Deol was not the first choice when Anil Sharma was first planning to make Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Sharma had reportedly first approached Govinda and Kajol for the lead roles of Tara Singh and Sakina. However, after the two refused to do the film, Sharma approached Sunny Deol who agreed to do the film.
Meanwhile, Gadar 2 has now entered its 4th week of its successful run at box-office. The film added 5.5 crores on Saturday to its domestic collections, taking its net total to 488 crores.
