Veteran actor Jackie Shroff recently reminisced about the challenging early days of his Bollywood career. Hailing from a "non-privileged" background "without industry connections", the actor revealed that he was intentionally kept secluded from social circles. He shared that he remained focused on his work and relied on hard work to climb the ladder of success.

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Jackie Shroff reflected on a time when he was not even considered for social events. He said, "Main kaam hi kar raha, bass aur kuch mujhe dikh hi nahi raha that. Maa ke pair daba, kaam kar aur soja. Mai sochta hi nahi tha. Kyu ki mai jab teen batti me rehta tha tab bhi log bolte the, mujhe party me bhi nahi bulate the. Aaj bhi nahi bulaate par uss waqt bhi nahi bulaate the. Unka dil hai par apun apna chalte raho. Pehle toh bulate hi nahi the, bolte the ‘aree yaar isko kya bula raha hai yaar. (I did not see anything else than work, used to do work, and sleep. I used to not think about it. When I used to stay in teen batti, I used to hear a lot from people. They did not even call me for parties, they don’t even call me today.)”

Originally named Jai Kishan Kakubhai Shroff, the actor's moniker evolved over time to become the iconic 'Jackie.' He shared the interesting story behind the name change, attributing it to a schoolmate who found 'Jaikishan' too long. The playful nickname 'Jai-ki' eventually transformed into 'Jackie,' a name that has stuck with the actor throughout his career.

He shared, "I had a classmate in school, who came from Hong Kong or Dubai. He felt that Jaikishan was a long name, so he told me that we should have some fun with it. He started calling me Jai-ki, and from there, it evolved to Jackie. My name has kept changing, but I’m still the same.”
