Kiran Rao Talks About Her Bond With Aamir Khan Post-Divorce: It Goes Beyond Marital Relationship

Kiran Rao is currently gearing up for the release of her film, Laapataa Ladies. The film will be marking Rao's directorial debut. Ahead of the same, the actress opened up about her work along side reflecting on her relationship with former husband Aamir Khan, which is still thriving despite their divorce more than two years ago.

Kiran Rao reflects on her warm camaraderie with Aamir Khan

In a recent interview with Connect FM Canada, Kiran Rao opened up on her relationship with Aamir Khan, something she says has not changed much since their divorce in July of 2021. Rao shared how their equation is made up of complete honesty, to the point that they have never had any fallouts. She further added how the divorce was simply a means to redefine the kind of relationship they share. 

She said, "It came naturally to us because we started off working together, and even after we became partners, we continued working together. We understand each other in a way that goes beyond just the marital relationship. We are creatively very close. We also share similar opinions on many issues...We never even had any acrimonious fallouts or big fights. We just wanted to redefine our relationship. We wanted to remain a family, but not be married. So we just made our own rules. I don’t think relationships can be given social tags."

Kiran Rao says Aamir Khan takes her opinion on cinema rather seriously

Further elaborating on their bond, Kiran added how Aamir greatly values her take on cinema. Thought the actor may end up following what his heart wants, he has asked of her opinion, deliberating the same with her on multiple occasions. 

She said, "He has sought my opinion on many occasions. I suppose since we think similarly on so many levels, I have also been able to influence him. Though he’s always been the person who follows his own path, he values my opinion quite a lot. And it’s nice to hear that." Laapataa Ladies will release in theatres on March 1.
