Nepo Kid Alia Bhatt Is Responsible: Director Vasan Bala Finds Support As Jigra Flops
Alia Bhatt's Jigra has not even been able to recover one-third of its budget. The director, Vasan Bala has taken the fall for failure, but netizens disagree.
Alia Bhatt starrer Jigra has emerged as her worst-grosser in the past decade. The actress has been on the receiving end of the flak after the failure of the film, owing to the numerous controversies. From nepotism claims to plagiarism allegations, Jigra has made the headlines for all the wrong headlines and this publicity did not even translate to the box office success of the movie. Amid the lukewarm response to the movie, director Vasan Bala has come forward to take the blame for the film's failure. This, however, did not sit well with social media users who claim he is being used as a ‘scapegoat’.
Alia Bhatt ended his career : Netizens rally behind Vasan Bala amid Jigra failure
Bollywood has recently resurrected from a credit war that ensued after the super success of Stree 2. This was quickly followed by a blame game after Jigra's release. While some critics and reviews claimed that Alia Bhatt performed well in the film and it is Vasan Bala's script that falters, the social media narrative largely differs. This was accelerated by Vasan Bala taking the fall for the failure of Jigra, claiming that he had let down Alia and the producer. Amid the incessant trolling of the film, the director went to the lengths of deactivating his X (formerly Twitter) account. This had netizens claiming that the movie flopped because of Alia, and Bala is being used as a ‘scapegoat' to keep her image in the clean.
Soon after Bala gave the statement and went off X, social media users rushed to side with him. A user wrote, “If Bali ka bakra had a face then it’s Vasan Bala” Another wrote, “If a film's success is a collective effort, failure is also to be blamed that way.” Supporting the director, a user wrote, “#VasanBala IS NOT THE ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BOX OFFICE FAILURE OF #Jigra. PERIOD.”
Alia Bhatt is not Lady Bachchan, only female superstar anymore: Netizens blame PR overdrive for Alia bashing
Some users even noted that the credit for the success of previous films like Gangubai Kathiwadi, Raazi and Rocky Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was single-handedly given to Alia, the actress has failed to take the flop head-on. Netizens have claimed that the fault for Jigra's failure has been put on everyone including the fan wars with Deepika Padukone , but the lead actress. Some even claimed that the movie was marketed on the shoulder of Alia Bhatt , with claims of her being ‘Lady Bachchan’ and ‘only female superstar', but the same PR narratives disappeared after the film tanked.
Some social media users have also noticed that while director Vasan Bala has been giving statements and interviews after the film's release, Alia Bhatt has quietly moved on to the next project - Alpha. The actress took to her Instagram to share a photo from the Kashmir schedule of the YRF actioner. Jigra has entered the second week of its theatrical run with ₹ 27.8 Cr in domestic collection. The only saving grace for the film is that it might surpass Highway (2014) which remains Alia's lowest grosser with with a little over ₹28 crore business.
