'Nothing Against Muslims': Bombay HC Clears Hamare Baarah Release With Cuts
Annu Kapoor starrer Humare Baarah is now slated to hit the theatres on June 21 after the Bombay High Court allowed the release of the movie.
After a long wait, the Bombay High Court, on Wednesday, allowed the release of Hamare Baarah, Live Law reported. The controversial movie, starring Annu Kapoor in the lead role, was granted permission after the makers agreed to chop off objectionable scenes from the movie.

A division bench of Justice BP Colabawalla and Justice Firdosh Pooniwalla passed the order after they observed that it does not offend the religious sentiments of the Muslim community. the court observed that the movie aims at the upliftment of women. "The movie is in fact for the upliftment of women. The movie has a Maulana misinterpreting the Quran and in fact one Muslim man objects to the same in the scene. So this shows that people should apply their mind and not blindly follow such Maulanas," the high court said.
The makers have agreed to delete a dialogue, and a Quranic verse and put two disclaimers of 12 seconds each in the movie. The court has also asked for ₹5 lakh fine from makers for releasing the trailer with uncertified scenes.
What do we know about Hamare Baarah?
Set against the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh, the movie encourages contemplation on society's views on family size and the importance of women's empowerment. The movie follows Manzoor Ali Khan Sanjari, played by Annu Kapoor, who insists on having more children despite dangers. His daughter Alfiya takes him to court to save her stepmother's life, sparking a battle between patriarchal traditions and individual rights.
Jointly produced by Virendra Bhagat, Ravi S Gupta, Sanjay Nagpal and Shiv Balak Singh and directed by Kamal Chandra, the movie is scripted by Rajan Agarwal. The movie also stars Ashwini Kalsekar, Rahul Bagga, Paritosh Tiwari, Parth Samthaan, Manoj Joshi and debutants Aditi Bhatpahri and Shagun Mishra.
