Akshay Kumar is currently enjoying the successful box office run of Oh My God 2. A sequel to the 2012 hit film, OMG 2 was released alongside Gadar 2 and Jailer. It became apparent during its first-week run that the film is not going to be sidelined by Rajinikanth’s Jailer and Sunny Deol’s mass actioner Gadar 2. Now, the film has crossed a crucial mark at the box office.

3 things you need to know:

  • OMG 2 came more than a decade after the first film.
  • While the first film was directed by Umesh Shukla, OMG 2 is directed by Amit Rai.
  • Despite its limited budget, OMG 2 has crossed Rs 100 crore at the box office.

OMG 2 picks up pace on Day 9

As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh and Sacnilk, OMG 2 has officially crossed the Rs 100 crore mark. It was initially expected that the film might take another day for the same since it had touched the Rs 90 crore mark with its Friday earnings. However, the film picked up the pace and minted Rs 10.53 crore. The jump was around 75 percent from its Friday collection.

OMG 2 collection stands at Rs 101.61 crore at India box office. OMG 2 has managed to pick up the pace despite Jailer and Gadar 2's stellar run. Both films have gone past the Rs 300 crore mark, but for a film with a subject like OMG 2, standing toe-to-toe in competition against mass films is a big feat.

Akshay Kumar recovers from a stint of average performers

Akshay Kumar’s dry spell of delivering a series of average box office performers has finally ended with OMG 2. This is the first film featuring the actor after the 2021 film Sooryavanshi which hit the Rs 100 crore mark. Sooryavanshi had stopped just shy of Rs 200 crore in its lifetime collection. What came after was a string of flops. Bachchhan Paandey (Rs 49.98 crore lifetime haul), Samrat Prithviraj (Rs 68.05 crore), Raksha Bandhan (Rs 44.39 crore), Ram Setu (Rs 71.87 crore) and Selfiee (Rs 16.85 crore), which all ended up being underwhelming performers at the box office.
