OMG 2 Box Office Day 8: Akshay Kumar finally breaks dry spell after 5 consecutive flops

OMG 2 was released alongside the likes of Gadar 2, Jailer and Bhola Shankar over the Independence Day weekend. Expectations from the film were high since it was a sequel to the 2012 hit film OMG. However, the Indian censor board gave it an A certificate, meaning that it would miss out on most of its family audience. However, positive reception from critics led to the film performing well at the box office dispute Gadar 2 storm.

OMG 2 breaks Akshay Kumar’s dry spell

OMG 2 is currently gearing up to collect Rs 100 crore at the box office. The film's current box office total stands at Rs 91.08 crore after taking home Rs 6.03 crore on Friday. If the film takes home Rs 9 crore or more from Saturday earnings, then it will enter the Rs 100 crore club.

Akshay's film finally enters Rs 100 crore club

This is the first film from Akshay Kumar after the 2021 film Sooryavanshi that will hit the Rs 100 crore mark. Sooryavanshi had stopped just shy of Rs 200 crore in its lifetime collection. What came after was a string of flops. Bachchhan Paandey (Rs 49.98 crore lifetime haul), Samrat Prithviraj (68.05 crores), Raksha Bandhan (Rs 44.39 crore), Ram Setu (Rs 71.87 crore) and Selfiee (Rs 16.85 crore), which all ended up underwhelming performers at the box office. 

OMG 2 reached its peak on August 15 with Rs 17.55 crore. It remains to be seen how long can the film keep itself afloat when both Gadar 2 and Jailer are heading towards big box office hauls.
