Raj Kumar Kohli, filmmaker and father of actor Armaan Kohli, died aged 95 on Friday. The seasoned director took his last breath this morning after suffering a heart attack. Since his directorial debut with Punjabi film, Sapni, in 1963, Kohli had been an integral part of the film industry.
Raj Kumar Kohli dies of heart attack
According to the reports, Kohli went to the bathroom this morning to take a shower. After he didn't come out for a long time, his son Armaan broke down the door and discovered him lying on the floor. After being taken to the hospital right away, doctors pronounced the filmmaker dead.
Many large-scale, multi-star movies with large budgets have been directed by Rajkumar Kohli, including Nagin (1976), which starred Reena Roy, Sunil Dutt, Feroz Khan, Sanjay Khan, Rekha, and Mumtaz. The director is also known for helming Jaani Dushman (1979), featuring his son Armaan Kohli, Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and more. He has directed over fifteen films in his career as a director.
As a producer, Raj Kumar Kohli supported Punjabi and Hindi movies as well.
Among the hits he produced was Bees Saal Baad (1988), starring Vinod Mehra, Mithun Chakraborty, Dimple Kapadia, and Meenakshi Sheshadri. Gora Aur Kala (1972), Danka (1969), Dulla Bhatti (1966), Lootera (1965), Main Jatti Punjab Di (1964), Pind Di Kurhi (1963), and Sapni (1963) are a few of his producing endeavors.
The last phase of Raj Kumar Kohli’s career
As his final film project, he went on to direct Armaan in Aulad Ke Dushman (1993) and Qahar (1997). His goal in producing Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani (2002) was to recreate the enchantment of his classics from the 1970s. But because of the movie's critical and financial reception, Raj Kumar Kohli had to leave the business.
The impact Raj Kumar Kohli has had on Indian cinema goes beyond only his directing abilities. While the film industry laments the passing of this great star, his memory endures in the classic movies that helped to define Bollywood. To honor this silver screen genius, a funeral is scheduled for 5:30 pm at Santacruz Hindu crematorium on Friday.
