Ranveer Singh was recently announced as the new leading man of the Don franchise. Excel Entertainment announced the new film with Ranveer in the read role and the announcement was met with significant backlash. Addressing the same at the Red Sea Film Festival, the actor compared the film with the James Bond franchise and said any scepticism that comes with a change in a cast is ‘only natural’.

Ranveer Singh marked his presence at the Red Sea Film Festival. While speaking on the stage, the actor addressed the backlash he has been facing with regard to his casting in Don 3. He said, “I’m hoping to make Don my own and give it my spin, my interpretation.” 

He further went on to compare the Don franchise with the James Bond and drew a parallel on how casting changes in cinema have always met with cynicism. He elaborated, “It is the handing over of the baton of one of the most loved and revered franchises of Hindi cinema. The significance of that is not lost on me. When the announcement was made, as expected, it came with its share of scepticism. But throughout the history of cinema, this has happened. Even as recently as perhaps when the Bond franchise changed hands and they announced Daniel Craig as the new Bond, it came with its fair share of scepticism. So, this is only natural.” 

Ranveer Singh assures fans he will give his best in Don 3 

Ranveer reiterated that he has a weight of fans' expectations and a legacy to take forward, which he is aware of. He said, “Taking the baton forward in this franchise and continuing the legacy of two of our greatest superstars – the significance of that is not lost on me. So, I will give it my best shot and you will see the very best of me and I will put my best foot forward for Don undoubtedly.” 

The original version of Don was first released in 1978. The film starred Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role. Farhan Akhtar subsequently made a sequel to the film in 2006 and then again in 2011. The director will now helm Don 3 which will hit the big screens in 2025.
