Saira Banu shares snippets from Dilip Kumar's patriotic films on Independence Day | Watch

Actress Saira Banu uploaded a video on her Instagram handle on the occasion of Independence day. The video contained snippets from several movies featuring Dilip Kumar which played around the themes of patriotism and nationalism, and a message about the importance of peace for the nation's prosperity.

Sharing the montage, Banu added the caption in her post, “Aman aur shanti kisi bhi mulk ko mazbooti se baandhe rakhne ka kaam karte hain. Dilip Sahib ka bhi yahi maanna tha ki agar koi misaal qayam karni hi hai toh woh Aman ki shakl mein ki jaye.” (Peace and harmony have the ability to keep a nation united. Dilip Sahib too held the same belief that if someone wanted to create an example, then it has to be done through the way of peace.)

She added, “Taakeh aane vali naslein usse seekh sakein aur iss silsile ko aage badha sake, kyunki awaam ki taraqqi mein hi Hindustan ki taraqqi hai. Aap sabhi ko 'Azaadi Mubarak'” (It is only then that the generations to come can continue a similar tradition, because the prosperity of a nation lies in the prosperity of its people. Dilip Kumar songs still play everywhere on Independence day

The films featured in the video are some of Kumar’s most popular and iconic works like Naya Daur, Karma, and Leader. Incidentally, some of the songs from these films like ‘Ye Desh Hai Veer Jawano Ka,’ ‘Dil Diya Hai’ and ‘Apni Azadi ko’ continue to be played on occasions like Independence day and Republic day till date.  

The video also has an excerpt from an old interview with Dilip Kumar, where the late actor is talking about the dire need to leave such a legacy for the coming generations that is worth holding on to and cherishing. He says in the excerpt, “You and I should think about what are we leaving for the coming generations - a beautiful future, and some knowledge for them to learn from.”
