The Sabarmati Report BO Collection Day 2: Vikrant Massey Starrer Witnesses A Growth, Mints ₹2 Crore

The Sabarmati Report Box Office: Vikrant Massey starrer has been receiving positive reviews from critics and audiences since it released on November 15. The movie is based on the Godhra train burning incident that happened in February 2002, involving the Sabarmati Express. The movie had a low opening but with positive word-of-mouth was able to attract the audience to the theatres.

Helmed by Dheeraj Sarna, the movie witnessed growth on the second day of its release. It racked up ₹2 crore at the Indian box office, early estimates reported by Sacnilk. Adding the two-day collection, the total stands at ₹3.25 crore. Seeing the trend, the movie is expected to surpass ₹5 crore mark in the opening weekend.

The Sabarmati Report had an overall 26.63 per cent Hindi occupancy on Saturday with the maximum reported in Chennai (48 per cent).

The Sabarmati Report controversy

Before its release, the movie was embroiled in several controversies owing to its plot. Starting with release date, the movie was supposed to release in May this year but was later pushed to August 2 due to censor issues and Ranjan Chandel's (director of the film) sudden exit. After several release dates, the makers finally got the certificate and announced the date November 15. Apart from this, during an interview, Vikrant revealed that he had received death threats on social media targeting his nine-month-old son.

"These people know that I became the father of a child nine months ago. My child, who has not even started walking, has been dragged. I am worried about his safety. What society are we living in? I feel regret, but I am not scared. If we were scared, then this film would have never been released," he was quoted saying.

Apart from Vikrant, The Sabarmati Report also stars Raashi Khanna and Riddhi Dogra in lead roles. The film is produced by Ektaa R Kapoor.
