Vijay Varma takes objection to Irrfan Khan's The Lunchbox being called a 'flop' film

Dahaad actor Vijay Varma took to his social media handle to defend his 2013 film The Lunchbox. In his post, Vijay Varma called the Irrfan Khan starrer the 'biggest independent film from India'. The actor made the said statement after a popular film page called The Lunchbox a 'flop.'

In the last 2 days, the 'flop films that I secretly love' trend has taken over both X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, with countless movie lovers sharing lists of films that they loved, but which failed at the box office. Sharing one such post, the popular film page Cineprism mentioned 2013 film The Lunchbox in his list. The inclusion of a critically and commercially successful film like The Lunchbox did not go down well with many netizens.

However, actor Vijay Varma, in particular, took objection to it, even replied to the film page. The Darlings actor took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, where he wrote, “The Lunchbox is the biggest independent film from India. It did incredible business and is considered a global masterpiece. Not a flop in any parameter.” Additionally, Varma posted a screenshot from a trade website that detailed the box-office collections of the Irrfan Khan film.

The Lunchbox completes 10 years next month. It continues to hold the record for the highest collections for any Indian film in many overseas markets like Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Sweden, Austria, Belgium and Norway. Meanwhile, Vijay Varma has earned praise for his performances in Dahaad and Kaalkoot in 2023 so far. The actor will next be seen in the popular web series Mirzapur, which is coming out with its third season soon.
