Musical maestro AR Rahman was recently seen ditching his luxurious car and taking an auto-rickshaw ride to attend the holy Kanduri festival in Tamil Nadu.
Renowned music maestro AR Rahman graced the Nagore Dargah in Nagapattinam to participate in the Kanduri festival. In a humble auto-rickshaw arrival, the Oscar-winning composer was seen wearing a maroon kurta and becoming a part of the festivities that will last for over 14 days.
More about The Kanduri Festival
The festival is organised to honour the death anniversary of Saint Hazrath Syed Shahul Hamid during the Islamic month of Jamathul Aagir. Known for treating the illness of Thanjavur's 16th-century Hindu king, Shahul Hamid's historical significance draws Hindu devotees to the festival.
The festival features Quran readings, prayers, and a sacred flag hoisting. Noteworthy events include a fireworks display symbolising truth overcoming falsehood, a chariot ride carrying sandalwood paste, and the anointing of Rawla Shariff and the Great Saint's tomb.
Devotees observe a three-day fast, recite the Al Quran's messages, and receive blessings. Flags and lights adorn the Nagore Dargah, illuminating the spiritual significance of the festival. AR Rahman recently also attended the UAE's 52nd National Day celebrations in Abu Dhabi and released a song of hope.
Rahman while speaking at an event told ANI, "The idea is to create a song of hope. This is a song to honour everyone who is selflessly working. The world needs hope today. I hope the song brings peace, understanding, and joy. My prayers to all the people who need to get healed in this hospital."
AR Rahman’s recent controversies
The Oscar-winning artist was recently in a pool of controversy when the movie Pippa was released. Criticism arose as Rahman was accused of promoting the film during the Chennai floods caused by Cyclone Michaung. Before this, Rahman faced backlash for incorporating a rendition of Bengali poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s patriotic song Karar Oi Louho Kopat in Pippa.
The producers later released a statement, asserting that they had secured all required rights from the late Mr. Kazi Nazrul Islam's estate.
