Very few people remember that popular playback singer Arijit Singh found his way to stardom through a reality show, where he was not the winner. However, 90s kids will remember watching a young Arijit Singh battle out in the reality show Fame Gurukul before he lost in the final round to the people’s favourite Qazi Touqeer. Now, in a recent interview with famous podcast host Siddharth Kannan, Qazi Touqeer reminisced about their Fame Gurukul days, and his friendship with Arijit Singh.

Arijit is still the same guy as in 2005, says Qazi

While Arijit Singh was one of the runner-ups in the said reality show, history is proof that the singer has emerged as the most popular voice in last 20 years, surpassing any and every other reality show contestant in all these years. Qazi, talking about Arijit and his humility despite the immense success, stated, “He is still as humble as he was back in those days. He never shows it off. He is still the same guy as he was in 2005.”

To further underline his point about Arijit’s grounded personality, Qazi said, “He still goes around on his Scooty to buy milk and vegetables. He is unbelievable, incredible. Arijit walks around in his chappals and track pants, and is never bothered about what other people are thinking about his appearance.”

Arijit was very disciplined about sleep routine, Qazi recalls

Recalling the time they spent together on the show, Qazi said that he would often tell Arijit to stay up through the night but Arijit would respectfully refuse, saying "No, my throat will go bad." Qazi further recalled, “I would say, ‘Don’t sleep, that’ll make you feel good,’ but he would sleep anyway.”
