Dharmendra turns nostalgic, shares anecdote about Dilip Kumar on his birth anniversary

Veteran actor Dharmendra, close friend of Dilip Kumar remembered the late actor on his 101st birth anniversary. On December 11, the actor took to his X (formerly Twitter) along with a photo, he tweeted, “Today is our Dalip Sahab’s birthday…we miss him a lot.” In the photo, Dharmendra is seen sitting on the couch in the picturesque background of a famous Dilip Kumar poster. The actor's deep affection is evident from his teary-eyed looks.

Dharmendra and Dilip Kumar worked together on various projects like the Bengali movie Paari, which was later remade in Hindi as Anokha Milan. The actor was last seen in the film titled Love Nation. He is all set to star in a list of films including Apne 2, Housefull 5, Ikkis, and an untitled film with Shahid Kapoor.

Dilip Kumar is the late actor’s stage name for the film industry. Originally, he was Yusuf Khan. His first marriage was with Asmaan Rehman, and he later married Saira Banu in 1966.

Dilip Kumar was born on December 11, 1922, in Peshawar and took his last breath on July 7, 2021, at Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai. He is the most celebrated, renowned, and successful actor who ruled the Indian cinema from the late 1940s and throughout the 60s.

When Dilip Kumar first met Dharmendra 

According to an interview, the legendary actor refreshed his memory when he first met Dharmendra. Recalling the moment, he said, “When I first met him, I heard his sister Farida was working at a newspaper. I quickly told her I wanted to meet Dilip Sahib. She agreed, scheduling a meeting for the next day at 8:30. I was excited and couldn’t wait for 8:30. It felt like an 8 and 1/2 lifetime when I went and sat at his Pali Hill home from 8:30 in the evening till 1:30.”

Dharmendra once disclosed that his most valued possession is a sweater gifted to him by Dilip Kumar back in the 1960s.
