How to Train Your Dragon 2: Gerard Butler to reprise his role as 'Stoick' in live-action remake
Actor Gerard Butler is all set to reprise his iconic character of 'Stoick' in the remake of the popular live-action How to Train Your Dragon.
Gerard Butler is gearing up to reprise his role as the formidable Viking leader Stoick in the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon. The iconic actor becomes the first from the original cast to join the project which will also feature Dean DeBlois returning to write, direct, and produce the latest instalment.

As per Entertainment Weekly, the cast also features Mason Thames and Nico Parker who were previously announced to play Hiccup and Astrid. The complete cast lineup is yet to be unveiled. The portal further described the live-action adaptation as a story that will be both grand and intimate and promises to immerse audiences in DreamWorks Animation's creative universe.
Scheduled for release on June 13, 2025, the remake of How to Train Your Dragon aims to bring the beloved characters and captivating lore to the big screen.
How to Train Your Dragon's first part
The animated franchise, initiated in 2010, narrates the unlikely bond between a young Viking named Hiccup and a fearsome Night Fury dragon named Toothless. The film was based on Cressida Cowell's best-selling books by the same name. With a cumulative global box office revenue surpassing $1.6 billion and four Academy Award nominations, the series has been a massive success.
How to Train Your Dragon was directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois from a screenplay by Will Davies, Sanders, and DeBlois. It features the voices of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller and Kristen Wiig. The movie was widely praised for its animation, voice acting, writing, musical score and 3D sequences.
