American actor Jonathan Majors has landed his first feature film role after being convicted in a domestic abuse case. The actor will star in the upcoming film Merciless from Martin Villeneuve, the younger brother of Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, reports entertainment news outlet Variety.

What will be Jonathan Majors' role in Merciless?

In Merciless, Jonathan Majors will play a top CIA interrogator who is captured by an evil force after the woman he loves, who he is forced to make even greater efforts to defeat.

Villeneuve, best known for the sci-fi film Mars at Avril, will direct the project based on a script by Frank Hanna.

Christopher Tuffin will produce alongside Kevin Townsend and Kevin DeWalt. Amanda Delaplane, Chris Ochs, Andrew Bates and Ben DeVault will serve as executive producers.

Majors was considered one of Hollywood's rising stars with acclaimed performances in films and shows such as "Lovecraft Country", "Creed III" and the Marvel title "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania", before he was arraigned for assault. A highly publicized trial ensued. Ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari took his fall.

Jonathan Majors and his controversies

In December 2023, he was found guilty by a Manhattan jury of one count of misdemeanor third-degree assault and one count of second-degree harassment. Although he avoided jail, the actor was sentenced to participate in an intervention program.

Following the guilty verdict, Majors was dropped by Marvel Studios, who had cast him as Kang the Conqueror, the supervillain character he was to reprise in future Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films.
