Meg 2 Box Office Collection Day 3: Jason Statham starrer off to a good start in India

2023 has proven to be eventful for Hollywood films at the Indian box office. In July itself, two of the biggest Hollywood heavyweights this year, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1 and Oppenheimer, have performed immensely well. Both, the Tom Cruise starrer and the Christopher Nolan directorial have crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in India. Now, action star Jason Statham has returned to cinema halls for the second time this year with Meg 2: The Trench after Fast X.

• It’s a follow-up to the 2018 sci-fi film The Meg.
• Meg 2 is said to be made on a budget of $129-130 million.

The Meg 2 enjoys a decent start at India box office

Meg 2: The Trench has been performing decently at the box office. While the film opened with an underwhelming collection of Rs 1.05 crore on Thursday, it minted Rs 2.65 crore on Friday. After a 2-day haul of Rs 3.70 crore, the film is estimated to earn Rs 3.50 crore on Saturday, taking its total to Rs 7.20 crore at the India box office so far.

As per Sacnilk, the top three markets for Meg 2 were Chennai (51.75% occupancy), Pune (40.25% occupancy) and Mumbai (34.50% occupancy) for the English 3D version of the film.

What is Meg 2: The Trench about?

Meg 2: The Trench is a sci-fi film centred around a megalodon shark that resides in the depths of the Pacific Ocean. It’s based on the 1997 novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten. Meg 2: The Trench features Jason Statham, Wu Jing, Sergio Peris Mencheta, Sienna Guillory, Skyler Samuels and Cliff Curtis in key roles.

The first Meg film, which featured Jason Statham as the rescue diver Jonas Taylor, became a box-office success. Despite a $130 million budget, the film ended up being a box-office success, earning upwards of $530.2 million at the global box office.
