Malayalam actor Dhyan Sreenivasan, who recently appeared in Rajinikanth starrer Jailer, opened up about his drug addiction. The actor recalled taking to drug abuse in his college days, talking about how it affected his life and almost ruined his career.

While speaking to Manorama News, Dhyan Sreenivasan admitted that he had become addicted to drugs and alcohol in a big way when he was studying in college. The actor added, “Especially between the ages of 19 and 21, I became an extensive user of synthetic drugs. I stopped it only when I saw some of my friends falling sick after using those.”

The actor also stated that his drug abuse also caused a major rift in his relationship with his family members, recounting the times when he would abuse his father in a state of toxication. He added, “I was even ousted from the house once, though I have no memory of it - my driver told me about it later.” After a point, his family began to feel that he would never recover from his addiction.

The actor also stated that his love for cinema, and eventually the experience of fatherhood helped him distract himself and overcome his addiction. The actor confirmed that he has been clean for some years now, also recalling his visit to Tomorrowland music festival in Europe where he managed to resist using drugs despite many around him happily giving in to the temptation. He added, “Now, I am doing every project that comes my way so that I will always be occupied.”

The actor made his debut with the 2013 film Thira, where he featured along with two-time national award winner Shobhana. Dhyan Sreenivasan has also directed features like Love Action Drama and 9 MM among others. Dhyan will soon be seen in the Malayalam film Nadhikalil Sundari Yamuna which releases on Friday, September 15.
