Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 to clash with Pushpa 2, Singham Again on Independence Day 2024?

The makers recently revealed that Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa 2 is going to be released on August 15, 2024. The sequel to the 2021 film is one of the highly anticipated pan-India films and the excitement for it has been sky-high ever since its first look was revealed. After Allu Arjun won the National Film Award for his performance in Pushpa: The Rise, the stakes have only risen. With Singham 3 slated for August 15 release as well, the box office clash for I-Day has heated up. There may be another player coming into the fore. 

The Newsmakers

Pushpa: The Rise is directed by Sukumar. The film was released in December  2021 and is produced by Mythri Movie Makers. The film featured Rashmika Mandanna, Jagadeesh Prathap Bharadwaj, Sunil, Rao Ramesh, Dhananjaya and Anasuya Bharadwaj among others. It also features Fahadh Faasil in his Telugu debut. Based on the smuggling of red sandalwood and a smuggling syndicate around it, the film made around Rs 373 crore (US $47 million) at the worldwide box office. Along with Allu Arjun’s Best Actor win, composer Devi Sri Prasad won the National Film Award for his music in the film.

Singham 3 is the continuation of the Singham series. Directed by Rohit Shetty, Singham films are the Bollywood adaptation of the original Tamil film Singam, featuring Suriya. The Ajay Devgn starrer cop franchise has been commercially successful in India, with the first Singham film making Rs 157 crore against a reported budget of Rs 41 crore. Now, there are reports that both Pushpa 2 and Singham 3 will be clashing against Indian 2.

Who’s saying what

Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, which is set to come almost 3 decades after the initial 1996 film, is also expected to release on August 15, 2024. Trade analysts Manobala Vijayabalan and Taran Adarsh posted about the three-way clash which is lined up for I-Day next year. Indian 2 is helmed by Robot 2.0 director Shankar.

Indian 2 will feature Siddharth, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar and Bobby Simha.

Meanwhile

All three sequels- Indian 2, Pushpa 2 and Singham Again are currently in production. While Pushpa 2 and Singham Again release dates are locked, the makers of Indian 2 are yet to make an official announcement in this regard.
