Girls Generation former member Jessica Jung breaks silence on departure from group in 2014

Jessica Jung recently opened up on her exit from the popular K-pop group Girls’ Generation aka SNSD. The Korean-American singer talked about leaving the band to pursue a solo career in fashion. She is now making her comeback after six years with her latest mini-album, BEEP BEEP.

Jessica appeared on The Daily Ketchup podcast where she was asked about her state of mind while leaving one of the most successful bands in Korea. The singer said, “I try to put the past behind me, and I always try to look at the brighter things, the brighter side. Of course, that time was one of the darkest times of my life- one of the darkest periods of my life – but I had my family and friends to really support me, and my fans were always there.” 

Later on, the singer made a comparison between her solo career and her time in a group, stating that the main difference was that she was now able to "choose everything." Jessica added that in a group setting majority always wins and one has to cope with that system. While it was okay for her at that time now she knows that she enjoys [being solo more].

For those who don't know, Jessica Jung launched her clothing line, BLANC & ECLARE, in August 2014. The singer and the agency, SM Entertainment, began to have disagreements about how to handle Jessica's business affairs and group schedule at the same time. Consequently, in 2015, the singer terminated her contract with the label.

Jessica claimed in 2014 that she was asked to choose between SNSD and her brand and that she was subsequently kicked off the team. However, SM Entertainment claimed that the singer had stated that she wanted to stop participating in group activities so that she could concentrate on her business and solo singing career. This sparked many rumors regarding Jessica's departure from the group.
