K-pop idol Woodz announces military enlistment date, pens heartfelt letter for his fans

In a letter addressed to MOODZ, Woodz announced his upcoming military service. The k-pop star will enlist in the army on January 22, 2024.

Woodz, South Korean artist known for his multifaceted talents as a rapper, vocalist, and former member of boy bands, has announced his military enlistment. Cho Seung-youn, also known as Woodz among fans, shared this news with his fanbase, MOODZ, through a heartfelt letter. In the note, he expressed his feelings ahead of his enlistment on January 22, 2024.

In a letter addressed to MOODZ, Woodz announced his upcoming military service. He further penned a letter and expressed his determination to fulfill his duties as Cho Seung Youn, promising to return after dedicating himself to his military responsibilities.

As per the Soompi, his letter read, "Hello, this is Cho Seung Youn. I’m writing this letter today because I have news that I want to tell MOODZ [WOODZ’s fandom] directly. I have been called by my country and will be serving in the military from January 22, 2024. My military enlistment, which had always seemed so far away, has now arrived, and it feels like I’ve been thinking about my enlistment since last year."

He further wrote, "For a moment, I will be a little farther away than I am now, and I will do my utmost in my military duty as not WOODZ, but a young man named Cho Seung Youn, before returning. Nearly 10 years have already passed since I debuted and began working [as a singer]."

Woodz concluded, "Those years have been filled with the extremely precious and happy memories I made together with MOODZ, so I feel very grateful. I’ll come back even healthier, so please stay happy and healthy without getting sick, wherever you are. Once again, thank you to MOODZ for always giving me strength and giving me more love than I deserve."

A look back at Woodz' career

Woodz, formerly a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy band UNIQ, embarked on his musical journey with the formation of M.O.L.A in 2015 and Drinkcolor in 2016. Establishing his personal production team, Team HOW, in 2018, he evolved as a solo artist initially under the stage name Luizy, eventually changing it to Woodz in 2018.

In 2019, Woodz also participated in the acclaimed South Korean survival show, Produce X 101, before becoming a pivotal member of the project boy band, X1, formed under Swing Entertainment in August 2019. Following the disbandment of X1 on January 6, 2020, he resumed his solo career, releasing his first EP titled Equal, featuring the lead single Love Me Harder"on June 29, 2020.
