The post advocated for a neutral approach to the conflict, which garnered criticism from many who found it insensitive. In response to the backlash, Eric Nam issued a statement to clarify his stance. He explained that he liked the post as a reaction to the devastating news coming out of the region on October 7. Eric Nam commits to promote peace

Eric emphasised his commitment to promoting peace, love, and equality for all. As someone who has consistently advocated for these principles, he wanted to make it clear that his "like" was not meant to endorse any form of violence or discrimination. Meanwhile, the controversy took a toll on Eric's professional commitments. He revealed that he had to make the difficult decision to cancel his scheduled show in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, after receiving threats.

He wrote, "Hi everyone - following the horrific events of October 7th, I liked a post that I believed expressed a position of anti-violence, anti-hate and was against intolerance. My liking of that post was a reaction to waking up to devastating news, as someone who has always been pro-human, pro-peace, and for love and equality for all."

He further added, "After that, I received threats related to my scheduled show in Kuala Lumpur. Out of an abundance of caution for my team and my fans, I made the difficult decision to cancel the show. My heart is broken for the Palestinian and Israeli families that have been ripped apart by violence and are facing unimaginable loss. Nothing I say can be enough when there is so much pain and suffering, but I am praying every day that there is peace and safety for everyone soon."

Where did the controversy begin?

The controversy came from a post by @jordancbrown_ on Instagram. The post included a statement asserting the reasonability of opposing the Israeli government's treatment of Palestinians while simultaneously advocating for the protection of Jews in Israel and around the world. This post was liked by Eric Nam which stirred a series of controversies. The singer faced severe backlash from a certain section. However, some of his fans came out in support of him. A user wrote, "I'm confused. It doesn't say that he's on Israel's side, it just says that Jews in Israel should be protected as well. What is wrong exactly, the fact that he doesn't want innocent civilians in Israel to get hurt or because Palestine was barely mentioned in the post?"
