Did Mohanlal hint at a Yoddha sequel with this viral photo with a monk boy?

Mohanlal, the legendary Malayalam actor who turned 63 this year, continues to be an integral part of the Malayalam film industry. One reason why Mohanlal continues to be relevant is the way he has adapted to changing times. The Drishyam actor has a very active presence on social media, frequently sharing updates from his life on and off-screen. In one such recent update, Mohanlal shares a photo where he can be seen sitting with a young monk. 

Mohanlal's latest Insta post has a Yoddha connection

Mohanlal captioned the photo with the text, “Old Ashokettan and new Unnikuttan.” The said photo and caption have now captured the imagination of Mohanlal fans and other film lovers alike, considering it’s a direct reference to Mohanlal’s 1992 action drama titled Yoddha. Rumours are even abuzz among movie lovers whether Mohanlal tried to hint at a possible sequel for the movie with the post.

In Yoddha, Mohanlal played a character named Ashokan who lands up with the responsibility of protecting a young lama named Unnikuttan. Yoddha was directed by Singeeth Sivan. 

Yoddha had an impressive ensemble cast that included notable actors like Jagathy Sreekumar, Siddharth Lama, Puneet Issar, Madhoo, and Urvashi. Yoddha also marked AR Rahman’s first Malayalam film as a music director, and the film’s songs were instrumental in establishing the warmth between Mohanlal and the young monk.

Mohanlal has 4 big projects in the next 12 months

Although Mohanlal hasn’t posted anything further that would confirm or deny the prospect of a sequel, fans continue to throng the comments section of his post, making throwback remarks that make reference to Yoddha and its characters.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal is occupied with many film projects at present. As per the latest confirmed reports, the Drishyam actor has joined the sets of his upcoming movie L2: Empuraan, which is being directed by Prithiviraj Sukumaaran. Mohanlal is also headlining Lijo Jose Pellisery’s Malaikottai Vaaliban which is slated to release next year. 

Additionally, Mohanlal also has Vrushabha in his kitty, the pan-Indian film which also marks the film debut of Sanjay Kapoor’s daughter Shanaya Kapoor. In addition, He will be seen in Jeetu Joseph’s courtroom drama Neru.
