Ilaiyaraaja Wins Legal Battle Against Manjummel Boys Makers, Awarded ₹60 Lakh Compensation
Ilaiyaraaja, who had issued a legal notice to Manjummel Boys producers, for using his song without permission, has been awarded monetary compensation.
Veteran music director IIaiyaraaja is one of the renowned composers who have predominantly worked in Tamil and Telugu films. The musician is best known for his unique music every time he composes. Recently, the musician was caught up in a legal tussle with the makers of Manjummel Boys.

Music composer IIaiyaraaja had issued a legal notice earlier this year after he claimed that the Manjummel Boys makers used his song, Kanmani Abode Kaadhalan without permission. According to reports, given the film had become popular, IIaiyaraaja demanded a compensation of ₹2 crore, but later the amount was settled for ₹60 lakh.
According to reports, after receiving the legal notice, the producers of Manjummel Boys’, Soubin Shahir, Babu Shahir, and Shawn Antony reportedly met the composer in person. For the unversed, the song Kanmani Abode Kaadhalan is from the 1991 film Kamal Haasan starrer Gunaa.
This is not the first time IIaiyaraaja’s legal battle. He had earlier sent legal notices to singers S.P Balasubhramanyam, his son S.P Charan and Chithra, prohibiting them from singing his compositions without his consent and warned that they have to huge royalties and will also face legal action.

Manjummel Boys is based on true events, which follows the story of a group of boys who set out on adventure, but turns dangerous when one of them plunges into Guna caves, igniting a test of unity in a fight for survival.
Directed by Chidambaram S.Poduval, the film stars Sreenath Bhasi, Sobbing Shahir, Khalid Rahman, Jean Paul Lal and Chandu Salimkumar among others. The film was released on February 22 this year.

IIaiyaraaja is an Indian musician who is often referred to as Maestro, which was conferred to him by Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London. His notable works include Kuyila Pudichi, Rasathi Unna, Marugo Marugo, Sorgame Endralum and Kaattumalli among others.
