Neru Box office collection Day 1: Mohanlal’s courtroom drama opens at over Rs 5 crores

Mohanlal’s emotional courtroom drama Neru has finally arrived in theatres and is earning a lot of praise from the audiences. The movie relives the difficulties of falling into legal battles and how things unfold in the hands of law. Released on 21st December, Neru is directed by Jeethu Joseph.

According to Sacnilk, the Malayalam movie has earned over Rs 5.05 crores at the global box office with a net domestic collection of Rs. 2.6 crores and gross Rs 3.05 crores.

Neru’s promising occupancy

Neru enjoyed an overall occupancy of 54.37%, with morning shows at 44.90%, afternoon shows standing at 38.47%, evening shows at 61.53% and night recording 72.57% shows. Area-wise, Kochi held 63.25%, Trivandrum at 50.50%, Bengaluru at 40.25%, Kottayam at 80.75% and Hyderabad at 80.00%.

Neru emerges as Mohanlal’s comeback

After Mohanlal’s back-to-back flops like Monster, Aarattu and Alone, Neru is seemingly on the way to breaking his jinx. Neru’s director Jeethu recently talked about the movie and told OTT Play that every character in Neru has its own journey and ‘goes through a whirlwind of emotions’. He further shared that because the audience can never predict whether Mohanlal's character Vijayamohan will win or lose, "the film sustains because of the curiosity of how and why.”

Jeethu further shared that there is no twist or suspense in Neru unlike his previous movies where a crime is committed, an investigation is initiated to find a culprit, or a culprit is already apprehended. It's totally a new take on courtroom drama and he hopes people will like it.

In a one-of-a-kind shooting schedule, Neru’s 70% sequence is a courtroom setup and was shot over a stretch of 20 days. Other than Mohalal. the movie also stars Priyamani, Anaswara, Rajan, Siddique and Santhi Mayadevi.
