I found the character and the story very inspirational: Junaid Khan

In an interview with ANI, Junaid, Aamir Khan's elder son, shared that he was inspired by the story of social reformer Karsandas Mulji. Calling him a "real person," Khan said that in 1862 he was talking about those things that even today are happening in society. "So I found the character and the story very inspirational. Junaid Khan is ‘very grateful’

Junaid Khan earlier shared that he is "very grateful" for the by and large positive response that Maharaj has received. "Yeah, it's quite satisfying; I guess all's well that ends well," he added. Speaking about the initial attraction to the script, the actor said when filmmaker Siddharth P. Malhotra and producer Aditya Chopra called him for the movie, he found it "very appealing". He added, "I really liked Sid Sir's part. The Yash Raj banner is significant, so taking on this project was an obvious choice."

The release of Maharaj faced a brief hurdle when the Gujarat High Court imposed a temporary stay on its release after a group of businessmen filed a petition in a court arguing that the film had the potential to offend the religious sensibilities of the Vaishnav community. However, a few days later, Gujarat High Court lifted the temporary stay and later that day, YRF released the movie on Netflix.
