Tamil actor Arya talks about the film that taught him the reach of streaming platforms
The Village is directed by Milind Rau and produced by B. S. Radhakrishnan, under the banner Studio Shakthi Productions. The show premiered on November 24.
Arya, who recently made his OTT debut with the web series The Village, spoke about the film that first made him realise the potential and reach of OTT. The actor also opened up about his personal preferences and dislikes when it comes to film genres.
Web series were considered below film actors’ grade, shares Arya
In an interview with Film Companion, Arya spoke about the collective apprehension he noticed around him when he announced his decision to back an OTT series, and headline the show as an actor. He added, “As an actor, I am supposed to act and give the same expression irrespective of the medium. However, back when they first working on the show, people weren’t willing on getting into the streaming space. They really believed it was far below our pay grade for serious film actors, to be part of serials. “
At the same time, Arya stayed confident about his decision because of his film Sarpatta Parambarai which had released on Amazon prime, and had a great reception from OTT audience. Arya added, “So I was aware of the reach of a streaming original.”
Arya further recalls being excited by the narration and storyboards shown by the director, adding, “It was something I had no tried. So I thought I should do this.”
I try my best not to watch extreme violence: Arya
Arya also admitted that despite him being on-board for The Village as well as several horror projects in the past, the actor personally doesn’t like the genre much. He stated, “I try my best not to watch extreme violence on screen. The actor also shared that he hasn’t watched any horror film in a long time, including his own popular movie Aranmanai 3. He added, “I often wonder why people find this element so engaging in their movies . It disturbs me sometimes.”
