Saroj Khan biopic series is in development, confirms producer Bhushan Kumar

Film Producer Bhushan Kumar has confirmed his plans to make a biopic series on the life and times of legendary choreographer Saroj Khan. The T-series mogul confirmed the development while speaking to a media outlet. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is said to be directing the biopic series.

In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Bhushan Kumar confirmed that the Saroj Khan biopic series is well on track. He informed that Scam 1992 famed filmmaker Hansal Mehta would be directing the series, clarifying however that the project is still ‘in writing space.’ The producer added, ‘When you are in OTT space, you have to write a lot, especially when it’s a biopic. Hopefully it will come up good.’

Bhushan Kumar talked about this development during a promotional interview for his upcoming series Kaala, which marks the OTT debut for T-series productions. Talking about their foray into OTT and digital space, Kumar stated, “For a long time, we were thinking of getting into direct OTT space. As we could see, all kinds of ideas were being explored, and some of them are brilliant too. So we thought if we do it, we explore a subject nobody has touched.”

In 2021, Bhushan Kumar announced on Saroj Khan’s first death anniversary that he had acquired the biopic rights from Saroj Khan’s family.  Saroj Khan was a legendary choreographer in Hindi Films, who worked in the industry for over 40 years as the main choreographer. She had choreographed some of the most iconic dance numbers of the late 80s and early 90s like Ek Do Teen, Choli ke Peeche, and Chane ke Khet Mein, among countless others.  She passed away on July 3, 2020.
