Annapoorani The Goddess of Food out on OTT : Where to watch the Nayanthara-starrer culinary drama

Popular Tamil actress Nayanthara, who recently completed her 20 years in the film industry, has had quite an eventful year in 2023. Besides marking her Bollywood debut, Nayanthara also had plenty of Tamil releases. One of her films Annapoorani, which released earlier this month in the theatres, is now out on OTT.

Nayanthara reunites with Raja Rani co-star Jai

The Nayanthara starrer light-hearted drama can be streamed on streaming platform Netflix. Directed by debutant Nilesh Krishnaa, Annapoorani revolves around its titular protagonist (played by Nayanthara), who hails from an orthotic Brahmin family and carries high culinary ambitions. However, she faces a block in her path when her culinary ambitions clash with her religious beliefs. 

In Annapoorani, Nayanthara reunites with her Raja Rani co-star Jai. Raja Rani, which had released in 2013, was a game-changer for Nayanthara who received great acclaim for her performance as well as numerous awards. 

Besides Nayanthara and Jai, the film’s ensemble cast boasts of eminent actors like Karthik Kumar, Sathyaraj, Redin Kingsley among others. The film was officially announced last year in July. The film’s shoot commenced earlier this year in April, and concluded only in September.

Annapoorani marks 75th film of Lady Superstar’s career

During the promotions, the makers of Annapoorani had pitched the film as an R Thaman musical. The makers had released the first single of the film titled Ulagai Vella Pogiraal on November 18, 2023 which was also Nayanthara’s 39th birthday. 

Annapoorani, which also marked the 75th movie of Nayanthara’s career, did not perform too well at the boxoffice. Made on a modest budget of 15 crore, the film managed to gross 3.94 crore at the domestic box office. Interestingly enough, the film’s streaming rights were initially with platform Zee5. However, last week, it was formally announced that Netflix had purchased the film’s streaming rights.
