Thalapathy Vijay's film Leo is off to a great start at the box office, earning a whopping ₹100 crore in India in just two days. According to Sacnilk, Leo earned an additional ₹40 crore on its third day of release, bringing the film's total earnings to ₹140.05 crores. Leo earned ₹64 crore on its first day in India, surpassing Rajinikanth's Jailer, which earned ₹44.5 crore earlier this year. The second day, however, was not as successful, with collections dropping to ₹35 crore, a 45% decrease. It remains to be seen whether Leo can outperform Rajinikanth's Jailer, which grossed over ₹600 crore globally.
Leo continues its dream run at the box office
On Saturday, Leo had an overall Tamil occupancy rate of 76.25%. According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, Leo saw a drop in box office collection on Saturday after debuting on Wednesday. In the United States, Leo is the highest-grossing film for both Vijay and director Lokesh, and it is now the seventh highest-grossing Kollywood film of all time. According to Sacnilk, the film has earned ₹212 crore worldwide.
Leo's business in Tamil Nadu
Leo is doing exceptionally well in Tamil Nadu, Vijay's home state. On the third day, collections in Tamil Nadu were estimated to be ₹26 crore. Leo is also making good money in other states, with around ₹7 crore coming in from Kerala, ₹5 crore from Andhra Pradesh/Telangana, and ₹5.50 crore from Karnataka. Vijay and Lokesh's second collaboration after Master is Leo.
The film is part of Lokesh's cinematic universe of police procedurals, which also includes Karthi's Kaithi and Kamal Haasan's Vikram. He's next directing Rajinikanth in a film that could bring together three of Tamil cinema's biggest stars under one roof.
