Leo, even though it continues to break box office records, has received mixed review from certain pockets of the audience. The criticism has particularly come from those pockets which were expecting a more integral, and far heavier connection of the film’s story to the much-hyped Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) where the characters from his previous films Kaithi and Vikram were promised to cross paths with Leo’s universe.

Additionally, fans came up with their theories about Leo’s (Thalapathy Vijay) early years, and whether or not the story audience gets to see through the perspective of Hridayraj D’Souza (played by Mansoor Ali Khan) is true or not.

D'Souza's story was fake? Kanagaraj opens up

Now in an interview with Youtube channel Cineulagam, Lokesh Kanagaraj opened up about the truth behind Leo’s flashback narrative, clearing the air once and for all. Kanagaraj said that D'Souza was indeed narrating a fake story, and Leo's flashback is something which will unravel only in coming installments of the franchise.

Kanagaraj also informed that there was a sequence in the movie, where D’Souza warns Joshy Andrews that the story he is going to hear is ‘his version’ of Leo’s story. However, this scene was later edited out of the film in the final cut. Kanagaraja added that the following decision was made to avoid any dilution of impact on audience, so that the audience never suspects for a second that they are seeing a fake story being told by D’Souza.

Lokesh Kanagaraj also confirmed that only Leo himself can narrate his own story, as Mansoor Ali Khan's character Hridayaraj D'Souza is clearly a man who can't be relied on.

Leo released on Thursday, October 19 and took a massive opening of 140 crores worldwide. According to the latest report by Sacnilk.com, the film crossed ₹ 300 crore nett at domestic box office on Sunday, which was its 11th day at box office.
