Lokesh Kanagaraj shares update on Leo 2, Thalaivar 171, Kaithi 2, sheds light on the expanding LCU

Lokesh Kanagaraj has recently seen through the release of the Thalapathy Vijay led Leo. Though the film dealt with a spate of controversies in the runup to its release followed by a lukewarm critical reception, the film went on to mint ₹ 341.04 crores in domestic collections and ₹ 605.9 in its worldwide gross. With the film having had a stellar theatrical run, there has been immense conjecture about a possible Leo 2 - an update on which has now finally been shared by the filmmaker.

Lokesh Kanagaraj shares update on Leo 2

During a recent media interaction, Lokesh Kanagaraj confirmed that a Leo 2 was definitely in the works. As per a 123 Telugu report, his confirmation came as a reassurance to fans of the director as well as actor Thalapathy Vijay, that the two would be collaborating again soon. Kanagaraj also went into detail about what an exciting experience it is, working with Thalapathy Vijay.

However, Leo 2 will go on floors no time soon. Kanagaraj also stated how work on the film would only begin after he had completed filming for Thalaivar 171, starring Rajinikanth, followed by Kaithi 2, the sequel to his 2019 hit Kaithi, starring Karthi.

Lokesh Kanagaraj's LCU is expanding

For the unversed, LCU stands for the Lokesh Cinematic Universe. Currently, the LCU has three films within its confines - the Karthi led Kaithi which released in 2019, the Kamal Haasan led Vikram which released in 2022 and this year's Thalapathy Vijay led Leo. The director is currently in the midst of scripting Thalaivar 171 which will go on floors as soon as Rajinikanth completes filming for TJ Gnanavel's Thalaivar 170 - Thalaivar 171 is however, a standalone project, not part of the LCU.

With Kanagaraj confirming a Kaithi 2 on the cards, it can be said that the LCU is expanding. Prior to commencing work on Thalaivar 171, Kanagaraj will also be working on a 10-minute long short film, showcasing the originating point of the LCU.
