Vijay Sethupathi-Trisha Starrer 96 Sequel In The Works, Director Reveals First Response To Script
Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan starrer 96 was released in 2018. The director recently confirmed that he is planning its sequel.
Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan all-time classic 96 received acclaim from critics, for the script, direction, music, cinematography as well as the performance of the lead stars. Now, fans have a reason to rejoice as director Prem Kumar has confirmed that there will be a sequel to his hit film.
Vijay Sethupathi-Trisha’s 96 sequel in the works
Rewatching 96 again will definitely make anyone nostalgic. The film has been touted as one of the classics in the genre of romantic dramas. During a recent interview with Cine Ulgam, director Prem Kumar revealed his plans to make a sequel to 96. He also said that the film will go on floors once Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan’s dates are finalised. He expressed his happiness and enthusiasm by saying that Vijay’s wife loves the story.
Apart from 96’s sequel, Prem Kumar’S upcoming directorial Meiyazhagan is set to release in theatres on September 27. Produced by Jyothika and Suriya under their banner 2D Entertainments, the film stars Karthi and Arvind Swamy in the lead roles.

The 2018 romantic drama revolves around the reunion of former students from the batch of 1996, 22 years after their graduation. The reunion also serves as an opportunity for two former lovers Ram and Jaanu, to resolve issues surrounding their separation. It was bankrolled under the banner of Madras Enterprises and released theatrically on October 4, 2018.
On the day of its release, the film had collected ₹45 lakh at the Chennai city box office and worldwide ₹3.5 crore. The film earned ₹50 crore worldwide at the box office, with a cumulative gross of ₹26 crore from the Tamil Nadu alone.
The film was originally released in Tamil and was later remade in Telugu, featuring Sharwanand and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the lead roles.
