Rajesh Kumar became a household name after portraying the iconic role of 'Rosesh Sarabhai,' in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. However, his road to stardom took an unexpected turn in 2017 when he decided to bid farewell to the showbiz and began farming. In a recent interview with Rajshri Unplugged, he spoke about his journey from the small screen to the fields of Bihar.

Rajesh Kumar on his decision to become a farmer

Reflecting on his decision to delve into farming, Rajesh Kumar revealed that his ancestral land in Gaya, Bihar, beckoned him in 2017. He expressed his desire to become a farmer, a move that initially surprised his family, with his father thinking it might be a fleeting phase. However, Rajesh said that he remained steadfast in his decision and was determined to work on his roots.

The journey into farming, however, was not without its challenges. The actor shared that during this phase, he faced financial setbacks. Planting 15,000 trees on 20 acres of land, his efforts were thwarted by a flood, and the subsequent pandemic compounded his financial struggles. He admitted going through a dark period where bankruptcy loomed, and loans added to the burden.

He said, "From natural calamities like flood to the pandemic, I have seen everything in my experience of farming. There was a downward phase in my life, where I literally went bankrupt. I didn't have anything in my pocket. Loan bhi chal raha tha, toh kafi dark phase aaya life mein."

Rajesh Kumar on what he learned from his farming experience

Despite the hardships, Rajesh Kumar drew profound lessons from his farming experience. He emphasised the importance of shifting focus from oneself to others. He stated, "The day you stop thinking about yourself is the day you start thinking about others, and that’s when others start thinking about you."

Rajesh Kumar's return to showbiz

Rajesh Kumar, after weathering the storm in farming, has returned to the world of acting. Despite facing a dearth of compelling scripts that led him to explore farming, he said that he now balances his time between the being an actor and the serenity of his farmland.
