Salaar star Prithviraj Sukumaran said yes to Prabhas starrer in 30 seconds, compares film to GoT

Team Salaar is currently inching closer to its December 22 release. Arguably one of the biggest films of the year, the pan-India project was initially slated for a September 28 release which fell through due to lags in post production work. The film has been mounted as an action extravaganza and a visual spectacle.

Prithviraj Sukumaran said 'yes' to Salaar in record time


In an exclusive chat with Pinkvilla, Prithviraj Sukumaran delved into what it is that makes Salaar stand out as a film. The actor was clearly convinced with the story as he shared an anecdote about how he said yes to director Prashanth Neel within thirty seconds of the film being narrated. He additionally also compared the world of Salaar to the expansive Game of Thrones universe, affirming that the movie was high on drama.


He said, "I mean the first time I heard the script of Salaar was a couple of years back, a few years back. And it was a new narration by Prashanth, it took me about 30 seconds after the narration to say I want to do this. Right from its original story idea, Salaar is fantastic. It's a great film on paper. I keep telling Prashanth, it's a bit like Game Of Thrones. That's the kind of drama and the character dynamics the film has. It is huge. The scale is so huge. There are so many characters. There are so many intricate character dynamics. I think I have a fantastic role..."

Sukumaran additionally took close to no credit for stepping into the role of Vardharaja Mannar. The actor was all praises about director Prashanth Neel lets the creative process take over as opposed to planning down every last detail, his prowess with his craft makes the entire experience of working with him extremely efficient.


He said, "...the entire credit for the styling character and creating the look goes to Prashanth. He is the kind of filmmaker who does not believe in going on to sets with very fixated ideas. He likes to discover ideas and we can afford to take that liberty because he shoots very fast...It's not like you're sitting in your vanity van for hours."
