Monsoon season brings much-needed relief from the heat, but it also heightens the risk of eye infections such as conjunctivitis. Increased humidity and damp conditions can lead to a spike in fungal, viral, bacterial infections, and allergies, causing redness, dryness, itching, and pain in the eyes. Such conditions can also trigger headaches and migraines, making it essential to take extra care of your eyes during this period.

Common eye issues during monsoon season

Conjunctivitis: Also known as pink eye, this infection can be viral, bacterial, or allergic in nature.
Viral Infections: Often spread through contaminated water or surfaces.
Bacterial Infections: Can result from poor hygiene or exposure to polluted water.
Allergies: Increased pollen and mold spores during monsoon can cause allergic reactions.

Symptoms of conjunctivitis

Redness in the eyes
Dryness and itching
Swelling of the eyelids
Watery eyes and pain

What causes pink eye?

Factors contributing to pink eye include poor hygiene, prolonged exposure to screens, radiation, pollution, and pre-existing eye conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and myopia. These issues are exacerbated during monsoon, necessitating vigilant eye care.
