Tricolour hoisted in Naxalite-hit Bastar for the first time since Independence
Security forces hoists the national flag in remote Naxalite-hit Chhattisgarh villages; countering extremism with development
On August 15, the national flag was hoisted for the first time since India's independence in six remote villages nestled within the Naxalite-infested Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. This was achieved as a result of dedicated efforts by the security forces, who have established new camps near these villages to ensure sustained development in the region.
Sundarraj P, the Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range), previously expressed to PTI, "The tricolour will be hoisted in Chinnagelur, Timenar, and Hiroli villages in the Bijapur district, and Bedre, Dubbamarka, and Tondamarka villages in the Sukma district on Tuesday (Aug 15), where such an event has not been witnessed since independence." This occasion also extended to Pidmel, Dubbakonta, Silger, and Kunded villages in the Sukma district, which proudly marked their tryst with the tricolour during this year's Republic Day festivities.
The establishment of these new security camps near the villages has not only provided a tangible sense of security to the local residents but has also dealt a significant blow to the activities of the Naxalites. The IG affirmed, "The establishment of new camps near these villages has pushed Naxalites on the back foot. It has also resulted in bringing down incidents of black flag hoisting by them (on Independence and Republic days) to almost zero. The tricolour will now be hoisted with zeal and patriotism at these places."
The presence of these camps has facilitated the unhindered delivery of essential government welfare schemes to the people, especially those from tribal backgrounds. This progress has laid the foundation for comprehensive development across these regions that have long grappled with the challenges posed by Left Wing Extremism.
Sukma and Bijapur, both situated within the Bastar division, have been at the forefront of confronting the menace of Left Wing Extremism for over three decades. This historic development, marked by the hoisting of the national flag, is a testament to the collective resilience and determined efforts of the security forces and the local communities.
