Chandigarh: In a tragic incident, an 11-year-old boy named Shahbaz from Punjab's Nawanshahr died after a toy train he was riding on overturned at Chandigarh’s Elante Mall. The police have seized the toy train and registered a case against the operator.
How It Happened
Shahbaz was taking a ride on the toy train, when he fell and suffered head injuries. He was rushed to GMCH 32 hospital but later succumbed around 4 am during treatment.
The police have taken possession of the toy train and launched an investigation into the matter.
The investigation revealed that at the time of the incident, only two children were aboard the toy train. The mall had contracted a company to operate the toy train, as disclosed during the initial inquiries. The victim's cousin, who was also sitting along with him, escaped unhurt, they added.
Jatinder Pal Singh, father of the deceased, lodged a police complaint and a case was registered against toy train operator Saurav and the mall management under section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Industrial Area Phase-1. Singh, in his complaint, blamed the operator and the company for failing to ensure the safety of passengers, resulting in the tragic loss of his son.
Police said that Nawanshahr resident Jatinder Pal Singh, his wife, son Shahbaz, and his cousin's family had traveled to the city from Nawanshahr to Elante Mall for an outing. The police have obtained CCTV footage from within Elante Mall as part of their ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
